But yes, I had the male-gaze thought in mind, though my conception was more that she leaves a narrative like this -- an essentially female, fan-authored narrative -- and goes back into Trek continuity (basically male-authored and male-controlled) and becomes, again, a character who is acted upon rather than a character with much agency.
